Background
The original Acknefar Public Airport (a moderate services airport) was owned and constructed by Second Life aviation enthusiast, LeahDizon in the 'Acknefar' region of eastern Nautilus and began operating in September 2009.[1] To accommodate newer and larger jet airliners, Acknefar's runway was extended during August 2010 from thirty to fifty meters. The runway was also made wider and the terminal building was moved into the north-eastern corner of the facility, where it would stay for the remainder of the airport's operational life.[2] In November of the same year, the original prefab terminal building was replaced by a newer, but more compact, structure.
Eventually the original facility closed and the 'Acknefar' region underwent several years of non-aviation use under different ownership. The region was bought and re-purposed by Search and Rescue UK as a monitoring station for SAR operations in early 2014 and in late summer 2014 the region once again became host to a small public airport - this time in the theme of an abandoned Second World War era outpost. The airfield is equipped with a single, sandy landing surface, several hangar structures and a refuelling station. Acknefar Airport is linked to the adjacent SAR station (Sophie Redwood is the CEO of SAREMSUK Sar) by an automated ferry service.
In Novemer 2019 Henry Foggarty got the airport and now primary is a SLCG Air Station but its open to all traffic, civilians and military,The runway is long enough to have big airplanes.
