The Eurocopter AS-365 (ICAO: AS65 / WAKE: LIGHT) is a medium-weight multipurpose twin-engine helicopter. Created in Second Life by Spijkers & Wingtips, the aircraft was based on the real-life Eurocopter AS-365 Dauphin currently manufactured by Airbus Helicopters (formerly Eurocopter Group).
Background
The real-life AS-365 was originally developed and manufactured by French firm AĆ©rospatiale, which was merged into the multinational Eurocopter company during the 1990s. Since entering production in 1975, the type has been in continuous production for nearly 40 years. Since the AS-365's introduction in the 1970s, several major variations and specialised versions of the Dauphin 2 have been developed and entered production, including the military-oriented Eurocopter Panther, the air-sea rescue HH/MH-65 Dolphin, the Chinese-manufactured Harbin Z-9 and the modernised Eurocopter EC155.
Spijkers & Wingtips's Eurocopter AS-365 comes in two separate variants (civilian and police/search and rescue), and is equipped with a heads-up display (HUD), cargo hook/winch system, retractable landing gear, search-light, and functioning doors/navigation lights. The emergency services variant is equipped with an additional rescue basket, harness, and quick rope system. Like all S&W helicopters, the aircraft uses an incremental collective/cyclic flight system and is fully modifiable.
