The Antoinette IV is an experimental pioneer era aircraft. Created in Second Life by Velocity Aeronautics, the Antoinette was based on the real-life Antoinette IV, built in France by Antoinette in 1908.

Background

The Antoinette (IV) flown in 1908 and 1909 was an early French monoplane that had unique advanced design elements in aviation. It was powered by a (at the time) powerful 50hp V8 engine, and a radical paddle bladed prop. Even though this model did not have great success, the models following it (except the V) set records for crossing the English channel, as well as setting a record for time aloft at 1 hour and 7 min. The Antoinette IV was also featured in the 1965 film "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines".
