Morning Wood Logging Camp Airstrip, (ICAO: SLMW) also known as Morningwood Airfield, is a small rural airfield located in Amella, Heterocera, serving the greater Bedstraw area, including the municipalities of Hiraya Village and Fettler. It is named after the former Soviet Logging camp that resides on the airfield grounds, Morning Wood (Russian: Утренний Лес, transliterated: Utrenniy Les).
Landing Advisories[]
- Airfield accepts approach traffic exclusively in one direction, heading 270.
- Airfield is within a confined space - landing with large wingspan aircraft is illadvised with a suggested maximum wingspan of 24m (High Wing) and 14m (Low Wing).
Background[]
The first runway at Morning Wood was established in October of 2018 as the logging camp expanded. For late 2018 and early 2019 it was the home of the Full Bush Flying Club, until the land was re-structured and the airfield was taken over by the Diesel Girl Transport Services group (founders Yorkie Bardeen & Naomi Locket) in March 2019. For most of 2019, SLMW had two runways, including a smaller N/S field at the back of the property, as well as multiple dedicated helipads. Further restructuring of the land in February 2020 reduced airfield operations to the original E/W runway and a small grass field with basic facilities. SLMW remains the home of the Full Bush Flying Club, but ground operations moved to DGTS responsibility.
The airfield is one of two airports serving Hiraya Village and Fettler, two nearby towns that are situated on Heterocera's east coast, with the other airfield being Sommerfeld Logistics' Datana Hub. It is designed to serve bush-style aircraft, but can reasonably handle larger aircraft up to 14m wingspan (or 24m when in a high-wing configuration) if able to approach at a suitable speed to not overshoot the runway. Due to its small size and laissez-faire nature, the airfield is uncontrolled and lacks a VASI.
Beyond the airfield itself, the grounds are also home to a GTFO Hub, "Bar Bella" pub, as well as train and road access. Beyond her parcel borders, Morning Wood is adjacent to the town of Hiraya Village, as well as the small coastal town of Fettler. Access to Morning Wood is available via alternate teleport methods as well, such as the Eternity Gate, Stargate (Opengate and Alteran) and Tardis (NLS and Hands of Omega) systems. A Metro entrance near the GTFO hub offices will also transport visitors directly to Fiji Island Airport. There is also an onsite rocket pod that provides quick access to the space station in orbit above the airfield, "Science Space Station Ruby."
